Colour Dare #570 - Four Square

Our Colour Dare Challenge for #570 is a Four Square challenge. You need to use 3 of the colours - Journey, Glacier, Mink and Ballerina Plus.... Black, white, neutrals AND Metallics are free to use. When you are creating for more than one challenge please make sure your project meets our requirement. I was looking for inspiration so I grabbed this weeks sketch challenge from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 546. Its perfect for a four colour challenge as there are four colours on the sketch. 

So I decided to grab out Journey Cardstock, Glacier Cardstock, Mink Cardstock and 

Ballerina Cardstock. 

For the little dots shown on the sketch I decided to use Card Front Stencil Pack 2 which is for the centre's of the flowers but it makes great bubble splotches. 

I used  Ballerina Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad with my Blending Brushes. I went back and did more after I placed the cardstock on as I hadn't gone wide enough with the ballerina ink dots. 

I cut a strip 4 inches long by 3/4 inches wide in each of the cardstock colours and tore the edges to give that ruffled edge. 

Then I stamped the Owl from the cutest Stamp of the Month and the sentiment.

I decided to paint with inks and my Medium Round Waterbrush

To paint with my inks I either use the lid of the ink or like shown above drop it onto the 

All-purpose Mat and paint from there. 

Journey Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad was what I used to paint the owls hat trim and pompom and scarf, then Glacier Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad  for the owls eye and hat, Ballerina Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad for the beak and feet and the top of his head - then I painted over it and his body and face with Mink Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad.

For the edges of my card I sponged with Ballerina ink and inked by running it along the ink pad plus the Thanks sentiment had the pink sponging and inked edges. I found a pre-embossed with brick wall look (retired folder) in mink cardstock card front and stuck that down. Then I put a retired twine in the criss-cross shape and stuck it all up on 3D foam tape. 

Then I heat set my owl to dry it with my heat gun. 

Then I cut him out with my big shot embossing/cutting machine. 

I stuck my owl on with 3D foam too. Its so cute!

Colour Dare #551 Triple Play

To start this challenge I pulled out my Grape Cardstock, Bluebird Cardstock & Nectarine Cardstock (I didn't end up using the grape and nectarine cardstock). To match I pulled out my distress oxides and found the closest I had were Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide™ Ink Pad and a retired Seedless Preserves which was as close to Grape as I had. The currently available Villainous Potion Distress Oxide™ Ink Pad is a bit too dark.

I also pulled out Storybook—Scrapbooking Stamp Set (I also have the matching thin cuts but they're sold out now). I also pulled out the Storybook Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet

to use the black and white cartoon storybook characters paper. 

I wanted to put the cute dragon on the front of my card and to colour the dragon with the distressed oxides. I decided to trial a few different ways to use the distress oxides to blend. 

Using White Daisy Cardstock first I cut a dragon with the thin cut, second I stamped directly onto the cardstock and third I blended the ink directly first. 

I blended the first thin cut one, then blended over the top of the stamped image on the 2nd one. 

Lastly I stamped the top of the thin cut (but my stamping wasn't very straight and I didn't love it). The 2nd one with the blending over the top was muted but I still cut it out with the thin cut. I prefer this method because I am not good at lining up. 

My favourite turned out to be the last one (bottom in the picture) I did which was the one I had sponged and blended PRIOR to stamping and thin cutting the die shape out. 

To compile the card I used Bluebird Cardstock 4x 5.25 inches, just under that I cut some Black Cardstock The black and white cartoon like paper. I stamped the make a wish sentiment with 

Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad from stamp set Meowgical Stamp + Thin Cuts. 

I stamped it on white daisy cardstock, backed in black scrap cardstock and bluebird cardstock scraps, I didn't measure them I just used my scrap bits. 

Finished off by adhering it all down with Air Touch Adhesive and the Dragon with 3-D Foam Tape.

Use the materials in this kit to create three coordinating scrapbook layouts. 

I made a quick card using scraps from my favourite bricks paper from the Documented set. With the lovely floral paper. Then I used the stickers from the complements to add the hello typewriter and the bunch of flowers. Quick Simple, Effective and a lovely card to give a friend for a hello. I took the photo in the light so it looks a bit washed out, the dark grey charcoal colour is more prominent in real life. 

The other card I've been working on is one I've done as part of my 3rd video with Caroline in our "Cardmaking with Caroline & Vandra" YouTube series on Sponge Techniques. I love the tea pots and tea cups in this set. I love the thin cuts with the teapot and teacup and teabag. Beautiful Friendship Cardmaking Stamp + Thin Cuts (as shown above). 

I found some tea in our tea chest at home that had cute teapots on it, so as part of our consultant swap I decided to make a set of teabag holders as gifts. I've seen a lot of consultants using these to put chocolates in, I decided afterwards it would be good to pop a chocolate in also (if I'd had chocolates I would have given them too), tea and an after dinner mint maybe :) 

I cut the cute teapot with the blue dot paper from the set and since the tea bags were orange I used 12" × 12" Tangerine Cardstock to make the strips of paper 3 inchs by 8 inches wide. Then I used 12" × 12" Sapphire Cardstock 3 inches by just over an inch. I bent the tangerine paper around in a tear drop shape with the tea bag sachet in the middle and folded the sapphire cardstock in half and stapled them all together with the Mini Stapler.

Then I cut the sweet NEW Thin Cuts—Stitched Hearts from white daisy cardstock and put them on the teapots and stuck them on the front of the gifts. 

The other card I made was a technique in a video I made "Cardmaking with Caroline & Vandra".  I used the die cut teapot as a mask to sponge the lemon ink around the teapot and then raspberry ink and then lagoon ink. After I'd removed the teapot I stamped the outline of the teapot in the space directly inside the sponging edges Then I added black paper surrounds and a thin cut shaped cup. As it was a technique showing card, I didn't put a sentiment on it.

Cardmaking with Caroline & Vandra - Sponging Techniques Video 1

We are pretty happy with our very first video. I'm sure as we make more of these I will get better at editing, speeding up and improving the quality of the video. We had lots of fun making this, which is the whole point of this exercise.
