Colour Dare #544 - Triple Play

Our Colour Dare Challenge for #544 is a triple play. I started with the Sweet Tweets—April Stamp of the Month because I thought it would be great as a paper pieced with Peach Cardstock, Harbour Cardstock, and Rosemary Cardstock. I stamped the middle bird on each of the colours with Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad and fussy cut them out. I decided it looked like a Robin Red breast so thought I would make that part the Peach colour.

I thought perhaps I could darken the edges of the "breast" and beak so I used the 

Blending Brushes with Peach Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad... but it didn't really turn out how I wanted. Due to that I didn't bother to blend any ink on the other paper pieced parts.

I also stamped the centre bird onto a white cardstock piece 2.75 x 2.75 inches and then layered the peach cardstock and Rosemeary cardstock on top. Then I matted the whole square with a 3 inch x 3 inch square of Harbour cardstock. I had done the square and then thought... What am I going to do with a 3 inch square so I looked up Pinterest and found an idea...

The part I liked was the folded corner. So I folded down the corner of a White Cards & Envelopes Value Pack. On the underneath base I used Peach cardstock. I cut the corner of the 5.5x4.25 inch full bit of peach cardstock. Later I ended up attaching the peach corner back on underneath the cutout section but I flipped it over for the darker side to be showing. 

I also stamped the border footprints on the edge of that peach card in Black Ink and stamped the Birthday Wishes sentiment onto a white scrap. I then matted the scrap in dark side of peach, then harbour (light side) then Harbour, to finish it off. 

I am finding it hard to photograph peach because outside it looked very pink and inside it looked orange... trust me its Peach cardstock and peach ink.

Colour Dare #498 Purple, Blue & Green

We have had a few rough weeks so I have been behind in crafting and I needed to make my son a card for his 18th Birthday so I did a search on Pinterest and was inspired by this card which was shared by Joely Berry see https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/14214555065416463/ 

I decided that this would be perfect for this colour shades purple, blue and green. I pulled out the Block Alphabet Thin Cuts & Numbers but they were the number version which now would be similar to the new Birthday Numbers Thin Cuts or you could use the  Slim Numbers Thin Cuts which would also look awesome with this design. 

So I cut a 12x 6 inch white card base and folded it to a 6x6 card base. Then I cut the scraps of cardstock in Thistle (retired), Grape Cardstock, Sapphire Cardstock, Blue Belle Cardstock (last years colour of the year), Mint Cardstock, Avocado Cardstock and Clover Cardstock. I adhered them with Air Touch Adhesive.

Then I used Sapphire Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad and the Sentiments by Melissa Esplin Stamp to stamp Celebrate and Happy Birthday sentiments. 

I trimmed the 18's that were hanging over and the card was complete. Simple and effective colour wash.

Colour Dare #492 Tic-Tac-Toe In Full Bloom

I needed to make a card for a young boy in my local buy nothing group who I offered to make a card for so I chose colours suitable for a little boy turning 3. I chose the left hand side down with Lagoon Cardstock, Sundance Cardstock and Lemonade Cardstock. 

I pulled out an old stamp set in my stash called Fast & Furious after Dad told me little Master 3yr old likes trucks and diggers.

I also recently did some training with this style stamping as shown below. That was the inspiration for this weeks colour dare.

Its a fun technique where you stamp the white sections together to get the lovely split stamp. 

So I decided to do a multi-coloured version on a 6x6 sized card. I cut the Mink Cardstock into 6x12 and folded it as the base and this is my cutting guide. 

Mink - 6 x 12, 5 x 5, & 4.25 x 4.25

Lagoon - 5.75 x 5.75

Sundance - 4.75 x 4.75

Lemonade - 4x4 

(I probably should have done Lemonade a little smaller to fit the pattern better)

I used a tiny bit of adhesive to tack the coloured cardstock together and got my Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad and stamped the tucks and car OVER the edges. I also stamped the 3 from a retired set called Solo's we had B1288.

The idea is to stamp over the edges even though it creates a little section where the ink can't reach. This is covered later. 

Part of this technique is to stamp over the edges which leaves a little bit right next to each layer blank. That is the purpose of filling with the Mink layers later. 

I only used 3 vehicles because young boy was turning 3. Then put the non-stop fun stop sign in the corner. 

Close up shows the edges. Below shows how nothing much shows when you pull all the coloured sections apart. It all looks a mess but its a puzzle that works again when put together. 

Then I layered the Mink in between each of the layers and stuck them back together. 

Inside I wanted to do a pop up so I cut a bit of lagoon cardstock at 4 inches wide by just under 6 inches long (it was a scrap that fit so I didn't measure). I scored at each inch along the section and folded up in the middle and down on the sides... valley fold on the sides and mountain fold in the centre. Then I decided to stamp the presents on each side from the Cake Day—Scrapbooking Stamp + Thin Cuts. Note to self: Stamp on this part BEFORE folding... stamping on a folded piece is not easy!

I also used Cake Day—Scrapbooking Stamp + Thin Cuts to cut the cake in Lemonade cardstock and stamp in black ink. Then I cut one of the candles off (only 3 candles required). Then I decided to do a cake on both sides so did a second one and cut off a different candle on the reverse side. 

I adhered the pop up lagoon section with my favourite strong bond adhesive tape simply called Adhesive Tape. (see above, it has a red layer that you pull off when ready to adhere). 

I also added a dump truck in Sundance - fussy cut out. 

It cast great shadows. 

The truck didn't really match but didn't look too bad and I cut the candles to show each side only having three candles. 

On the below side I also stamped the "Hooray! Hooray!" stamp on there (prior to sticking the items). I made sure adhesive only on the bottom of the first side and on second side only to place it where the stamps are touching so no adhesive sticking out. If I made a mistake I could correct with Anti-static Pouch to remove stickiness. 

 

Finished off the inside with the tire tread stamp set and White Gel Pens drawn on the front to create a road.

Colour Dare #490 Browns plus one colour

I had in mind for my colours to use Browns with Lagoon... so pulled out some Kraft Paper, Espresso Cardstock and some Mix-In paper (with brown tones) with Lagoon Cardstock.

My story about today's Colour Dare challenge project started with me making a special box for my Mother-In-Law's birthday in May using one of Jennifer Maker's Alphabet Cricut Boxes. I used Mulberry Cardstock with As You Grow Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet. 

My daughter also purchased a wooden pennant banner from Kmart and asked me to help her create a banner for her Gran. It came up really great using Black and White Vinyl. She designed it on paper and just had me help her design it in Cricut design space. 

It came out really lovely and while it took me a few hours to make it wasn't as hard as I thought... so I thought when it was my friend Sarah's birthday for her 50th I thought I would create an S shape using Jennifer Makers Cricut SVG. But the W was a walk in the park compared to the S. 

Also one of the tips that Jennifer Maker has is to use double sided paper so you can tell which side is which. THIS IS A MASSIVE CLUE.... I thought I would make a Kraft Base and an Espresso base or visa versa... but when was learning how to put it together I started with the Kraft paper which was a mistake because the Kraft is same on both sides whereas all of the CTMH Cardstock is double-sided with a light and dark side so its very easy to see which side is which. So I had messed up the Kraft side and ended up with two S the same shape... the W is the same both sides so it wouldn't have mattered BUT the S in reverse can not work together. Doh! 

So I needed to re-cut them again... I cut the base again in Espresso and a lid in Kraft and I re-did the S... By the time I got to the end of the 3rd S I was saying it was S for Swear words! 

I have all the bits cut for the second Kraft half of the S but I haven't put it together yet. My surname starts with an S so it wouldn't be the worst letter to have in our house but I just couldn't do it to myself so soon after the other 3 halves of the boxes. 

I used the Dual-tip Permanent Glue Pen but perhaps a quicker to dry glue would be less frustrating :) But having to bend the paper back on itself was quite tricky. I would not recommend doing this shape! Pick easy letters like I or L :) Don't look too closely at my finished product because its a little rough. 

I then cut flowers from Cricut® Flower Market Collection in Lagoon Cardstock. The flower I chose came with these size variations and I added one extra shape (so my two flowers are slightly different). Bottom one is bigger and I put it to the bottom to create that visual heaviness at the bottom. I alternated between light and dark side of Lagoon for the flowers and off-set them a little to create pretty flower clusters. I also bent them upwards using my finger nails. Attached with Glue Dots® Ultra-thin Dots. 

To finish off I added some Gold Glitter Gems to the centre of the flowers. Lagoon is the colour that suits my friend Sarah's massage table so she could have it in her treatment room if she chooses.

Colour Dare #482 Inspirational Valentine

First up I decided I wanted to make a birthday card for my nephew using the Smarty Pants Stamp and chose the Sneaker. I have the thin cuts too but didn't use them for this card. 

I cut some White Daisy Cardstock to an eight of an inch below the 4 x 5.25 inch 

Black Cardstock mat that fits onto the White Cards & Envelopes Value Pack card base perfectly. 

Then I randomly stamped in Memento ink (or similar for alcohol markers like 

Intense Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad or Archival Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad). 

Looking at the colours in the valentines inspirational pic I chose the following colours... Coral TriBlend™ Marker, Citrus TriBlend™ Marker, Green Turquoise TriBlend™ Marker, True Blue TriBlend™ Marker and I coloured in the sneakers. I originally trialled shading but didn't love the shading (see blue sneakers) so the others I just solidly coloured without shading in 3 colour tones... I just picked one from each tri-blend that I thought went close to the inspiration picture. 

Colouring tip: I went out of the lines a couple of times but was able to hid that by using the White Gel Pens to hide the colour mistakes. I did try the colourless Blender Marker but it didn't remove the colour enough so I covered it with the white pens and it was perfectly hidden. 

For the title I used the "For All Occasions" stamp set and coloured each letter in... I tried to do a pattern but messed it up so it really ended up random. 

I matted the coloured party time title in black cardstock also and put thin 3D foam tape behind it wrapped Gold Embellishing Thread around and layered another foam tape under that to give it dimension.
