Colour Dare #560 - Fancy Five

Our Colour Dare Challenge for #560 is a Fancy Five. You need to use at least 3 of the colours from the above picture Plus.... Black, white, neutrals AND Metallics are free to use. When you are creating for more than one challenge please make sure your project meets our requirement. Most importantly - have fun!  Go to the link for Colour Dare #560 and add your entry. When you submit your entry you must provide a link to your post, not just to your blog in general. There are LOTS of ways to enter either a Blog Post or post to an online gallery (Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram etc), more details on the Colour Dare Blog post (see link above).

I chose the colours Melon, Sage & Harbour from the Famous 5. Then for this colour dare challenge I decided I wanted to use Laura Beecham's latest technique using sequins stuck onto Adhesive paper. Find Laura's video on Facebook here and on YouTube here

My daughter got excited at this technique and wanted to be involved too. I pulled out all my Close to my Heart sequins and let her have a go, she mixed a few sets to get her colours (but we haven't used her's to make anything yet). She was using my Pick-up Tool and my retired Close to My Heart tweezers but she really loves the pick-up tool for this.

I used the silver sequins I had left but they're retired now (you can still get lots of other colours including Gold Loose Sequins).

My daughter after seeing Laura's idea decided to use one of the squares to stick the extra left over "beads" from her glass painting. Every glass painting artwork has HEAPS of leftovers.

She used the special tool that comes with those artwork kits. Some of her full sized art peices are shown below. We haven't made a card using her blingy bits yet but she has HEAPS of them.

Okay getting back to my artwork. I stamped and cut the the flower cluster from the Cosette—Cardmaking Stamp + Thin Cuts

I stamped with Memento Ink from my stash which is similar to Intense Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad or Archival Black Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad. You need to use a good water-stable ink such as these 3 listed above so you can water colour paint them and they wont bleed the black ink.

#CTMHVandra, Colour Dare Challenge, Sequins, adhesive-backed, Water colour Paints, watercolour brushes, painting with ink, stamp and thin cut, shaker card, melon, sage, harbour, bling,

I used Sage Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad and Melon Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad to paint the leaves and flowers respectively.

I used my Medium Round Waterbrush to paint by putting ink into the lid (by squeezing the lid onto the pad while its closed). Making sure to clean off the water mess on the lid before closing again so the ink doesn't get watered down on the stamp pad.

I used Harbour Cardstock and cut it at 4 x 5.25 inches as the backing and stuck the adhesive sheet with sequins on it behind (as per Laura's technique). Then I used a 3.75x 5 inch Sage Cardstock and cut a circle with the Circles Thin Cuts. Then in Harbour cardstock I cut the frame from the Circle Shaker Window Thin Cuts.
#CTMHVandra, Colour Dare Challenge, Sequins, adhesive-backed, Water colour Paints, watercolour brushes, painting with ink, stamp and thin cut, shaker card, melon, sage, harbour, bling,

I put the sage cardstock up with 3-D Foam Tape. To finish it off, I added the painted flowers thin cut shape. Plus the title with Harbour Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad Stamped on Sage cardstock, then matted with White Daisy cardstock and double matted with Harbour cardstock. I used Melon Dots to the centres of the flowers and a few around the card.

I love how blingy this technique is and how special it makes the card look. Its also easy and fast. THANK YOU LAURA!!!!!!

I  started by stamping 4 butterflies on Vellum Paper with Black Memento™ Ink Pad
I left it for an hour or so to dry. This was a technique we learnt at our Close to My Heart Seasonal Expressions Launch. Also recommended is Archival Ink for stamping on vellum.

The next thing I did was line up the "dear Friend" and "Thinking of you" on my White Daisy Cardstock 1.25 x 3.75 inches piece where I wanted them to sit, then I dropped the block on top (with space to make it a banner)

Next I cut some 1.5 inch squares of the Workshops Your Way® Chelsea Gardens Scrapbooking Kit paper and then the backing stuck to the White Cards & Envelopes Value Pack was the linen pattern from the BBasics Fundamental Paper Packet 4 x 5.25 inches. I fussy cut the vellum stamped butterflies out and folded the wings and stuck them on with 3-D Foam Tape. The banner was on with Thin 3-D Foam Tape.

After I finished this card, I two vellum butterflies left. I wasn't sure if we could paint them because it was Memento on Vellum and I wondered if it would bleed. It was an experiment = I used some Watercolor Paints (oranges) with the Waterbrush—Medium Round. It curled up a little while wet but I really like how it turned out. (see below for how it looks with watercolour pencils with shimmer brush to paint on white cardstock).

For the card below I used the Remember picture my life card and stamped "thinking of you" with Memento ink. I used the Basic Fundamentals paper to line the front of the card and put the PML card on top. Then I added the heart banner from the Chelsea Gardens Complements set (cut a little shorter to fit). Then I stuck the curled vellum butterfly on top.

#CTMHChelseaGardens, Chelsea Gardens, Butterflies, Ribbon, vellum, Water colour Paints, water colour pencils, watercolour brushes, Shimmer Brush, thinking of you, friend, thank you, thanks, flowers, floral, Vandra,

The three cards I made below were from the Seasonal Expressions Launch event. I really loved using the Watercolor Pencils with Shimmer Brush—Clear to colour the butterflies in on white Cardstock. Such a pretty look on the paper. I don't think the photos of the three cards below really do the technique justice as they look amazing in real life.

Watercolour Painting with Ink

Water Colour Painting with Inks.

I was at my weekly card class and I had my inks and my Waterbrush—Small RoundWaterbrush—Medium Round and Waterbrush—Medium Flat but forgot to bring my Watercolor Paints palette. Never fear, I remembered that I could use my ink to PAINT!

Using the older style ink pad Thistle Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad (As shown Below), I pressed them together to get ink on the lid. This is the same process with the newer ink pads as per the below Emerald Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad as well. Get some ink onto the lid of the pads to create a paint pad.

I stamped with Black Memento™ Ink Pad with the stamp of the month Hello Foxy from June 2017 - see my blog post HERE on that month.

I used my water brushes that was filled with water and painted with Thistle Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad and Emerald Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad (one old and one new).

I used some Thistle embossed Cardstock (from the older Whimsy Fundamentals pack) and some LOVE paper from the new Whimsy Fundamentals pack paper to finish my card and I was really happy with this one. It was simple and effective.

Water Colour Techniques Class

At my weekly Adult Learning Card Making Class I taught them 10 days ago a few fun Water Colour Painting Techniques. Smooshing was everyone's favourite and fun technique. I made a few cards with my sample 4x4 sized Watercolor Paper samples. Using Watercolor Paints with lots of water and paint droplets on sturdy plastic or your 4" × 5" My Acrylix® Blockthen turn it over and SMOOSH the paint onto your paper to create interesting organic designs.

Note: I did mention this technique on the Tea-rrific S1703 CTMH Australasian Blog Hop
See below Mothers Day card also shown on that Blog Hop.

Following on from this theme this weekend I used my watercolour samples and made another similar card using that Tea-rrific—March Stamp of the Month and Workshops Your Way® Sugar Rush Scrapbooking Kit paper.

I used White Twine to add the tea bag tag and used Black Memento™ Ink Pad to to stamp them and my ShinHan markers to colour in the tag. I put washi tape on the back to hold the twine in place.

One of my ladies made the following card at the class with the Smooshing Technique and Balloon Wishes stamp set. She used some 3-D Foam Tape to add dimension to the title. I loved her card so asked if I could take a photo and post to my blog.

Another lady Helen took her watercolour paper home and created cards and brought them back this last Thursday. She did smooshing technique below with 3 or 4 main colours and got a grid sort of smooshed area. She then cut a circle out using a thin cut die (Thin Cuts—Basic Circles are on 25% discount this month). The stamps she used are her own. Again I was super impressed with what she had done with her Watercolour practice piece that I took a photo.

Helen also did the varigated wash sample and stamped the Balloon Wishes stamp at class and then took it home to mount it and stamp the title and butterflies with her own stamps. Such a pretty card she made. I was so impressed with her creation.

I have loved teaching these techniques - along with a bunch of others as seen in the blog hop and other cards I've made.

One of my ladies only comes every second week so I'm looking forward to this Thursday to see what she made with her watercolour samples that she took home to stamp and make into a card.
